Where are you going to be on the 29th of June? No plans? Good, because Limerick is exactly the place that you want to be.
…Now that I assume you’ve got the standard Limerick jokes out of the way, let’s begin. Set in the small market town of Kilfinane, Rocky Mayhem is a one day festival nestled amongst the picturesque Ballyhoura Mountains. A single stage in The Marquee at McCarthy’s Courtyard marks the spot where the impressive lineup will be performing on the night; we’ll see popular Limerick acts Raging Sons and Going 90 alongside The Cast Of Cheers, Damien Dempsey and Dublin’s favourite independent tyrants, The Riptide Movement.
Going 90 are a four-piece indie rock outfit who regularly perform at Limerick’s popular venue, Dolan’s, and were lucky enough to support Fight Like Apes there in May. Raging Sons are another Limerick band causing a bit of a stir, supporting The Riptide Movement at Dolan’s last November and again in the Warehouse last month. The Cast Of Cheers, Damien Dempsey and The Riptide Movement really need no introduction at this stage, but it’s pretty exciting to say that TRM will be flying home, fresh from their début performance at none other than Glastonbury Festival, just for this!
Rocky Mayhem is a unique sort of night: in it’s third year now and totally non-for-profit, the organisers have admitted that they do it for a love of rock ‘n’ roll and more than a little bit of madness! It’s a smaller affair, a capacity of about one thousand makes this sound like a wonderfully intimate festival—the perfect opportunity to get up close and personal with musicians who are certainly no strangers to playing much larger venues. Described as “simply unmissable,” it’s loud, it’s crazy, but best of all, you don’t even need wellies!
Tickets are a mere €20 from either the Rocky Mayhem website or Entertainment.ie, with the option of a €5 camping add-on, which is a pretty astonishing bargain for six great bands and a whole lot of craic!
BUT… I am also very aware that a lot of you guys are big fans of The Riptide Movement, and because of that I have a special deal just for you. If you and your friends buy your tickets for the festival via this link, not only will the TRM lads get a few extra euro, but you’re entitled to buy a free camping pass! Now really, if that hasn’t got you reaching for your wallet, what will?
